Village Masti with Cousins: The Ultimate Desi Adventure!

There’s something magical about spending time in the village with your cousins. It’s like a whole new world where everything is simpler, yet somehow way more chaotic. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure (and by pleasure, I mean total mayhem) of spending a weekend with my cousins in the village. Let me take you through my village masti journey—full of laughter, mischief, and questionable decisions.

1. The Arrival: Land of Dust, Chickens, and Unlimited Fun!

You know the feeling when you step into the village, and it’s like you’ve entered a whole different universe? The first thing that hits you is the dust. And then… the smell. It’s a mixture of fresh air, earth, and a hint of cow dung (nature’s perfume, right?). But as soon as you see your cousins, you forget all about it. They’re already in full-on masti mode, ready to unleash chaos, and you—unfortunately—are now part of their plans.

You haven’t truly lived until you’ve been chased by a rooster, and my cousins ensured that I had that experience. You see, the rooster was convinced I was a threat, or maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but either way, I’m definitely still afraid of that bird. But it wasn’t all bad. At least I got some cardio in!

2. The Farm Adventure: A Lesson in Farming (Kind of)

Next up, it was time to help with the “farming.” I say “help” because what really happened was me getting in the way. My cousins were so excited to show me how to feed the cows, and by “show me,” I mean they handed me a bucket of hay and laughed as I struggled to figure out which end of the cow to approach. I’m not gonna lie, I thought I was going to be trampled, but hey, we survived!

The real fun began when we tried to catch the goats. I’m convinced goats are secretly faster than cheetahs, especially when you’re running after them in flip-flops. Imagine this: me, three cousins, and a herd of goats, all running in different directions, each of us yelling at the others to “catch that one!” It was like a live-action cartoon. Spoiler alert: the goats won.

3. The Legendary Kacha Aam Hunt: Survival of the Fittest

Ah, the kacha aam (green mango)—the village delicacy that is as sour as it is satisfying. One of the first things my cousins wanted to do was go hunting for these magical green treasures. Naturally, I was skeptical. How good could a sour mango really be? But let me tell you, when you’ve spent half your life in the city, running around barefoot in the hot sun with a bunch of cousins on a mission to find kacha aam, everything suddenly becomes epic.

After a 30-minute expedition (which I’m convinced was longer because my cousins had no idea where the mango tree was), we finally found it. One bite, and I was hooked—sour, spicy, and with a little salt sprinkled on top. But of course, the experience was not complete without a mini competition of who could eat the most without complaining about how sour it was. Guess who won? That’s right—me… just kidding, I gave up after the third bite.

4. Evening Fun: Stories, Silliness, and Midnight Chai

When the sun starts to set, it’s time for chai (tea) and stories. The cousins would gather around, and of course, I’d get roped into telling “ghost” stories, even though I have a strong suspicion that none of them are true. But who cares when there’s a flashlight under your chin and everyone’s pretending to be scared?

We’d sit in a circle, sipping on our chai, listening to the epic tales of village life. A few exaggerations later, we were all convinced that a giant buffalo monster lived in the nearby fields. Of course, none of us had the guts to actually go check it out—because who’s going to mess with a buffalo monster? Certainly not this bunch.

5. The Village Olympics: Potato Sack Races, But Make It Competitive

The next morning, we decided to have our very own village Olympics. The events included: potato sack races, mud wrestling (okay, it was just us rolling around in the dirt), and a highly competitive game of “who can find the most random thing in the fields.”

I am proud to report that I definitely won the potato sack race, mostly because I was the only one who actually knew how to get into a sack. But when it came to the mud wrestling, let’s just say the results were… not pretty. Everyone was covered in mud, and we all looked like we’d just escaped a swamp. It was a good time, though, and we had the scars (and the laughs) to prove it.

6. The Farewell: Saying Goodbye is Always Hard

By the time my village weekend came to an end, I was tired, covered in dirt, and pretty sure I had bruises in places I didn’t know existed. But the memories? Priceless. The laughter, the adventures, the chaos—spending time with my cousins in the village was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

And let’s not forget the “goodbye” hugs—those awkward, slightly sweaty, but heartfelt moments where we promised to return next summer for more shenanigans (and probably more goats). But we all knew it wasn’t really goodbye. It’s never goodbye with cousins. It’s more like, “See you at the next kacha aam hunt!”

Takeaways from my Village Masti Experience:

  1. Cousins are the best partners in crime—they make everything more fun, even if it involves running after goats or getting attacked by roosters.
  2. Village life is unpredictable—expect random adventures that leave you laughing and questioning your choices.
  3. **You will get dirty, you will fall, and you will love it.
  4. Green mangoes—sour, spicy, and will probably make you regret eating them after the 5th one.

So, if you ever find yourself in the village with your cousins, embrace the chaos, because, trust me, you won’t regret a single second of it. Except maybe when the rooster chases you.
